The 2015 Bowfishing Association of American (BAA) World Bowfishing Championship is in the books. The event took place July 25-26 in Praire du Chien, Wisconsin, with 43 teams from across the country fishing waters along the Mississippi River. Teams had the opportunity to compete in the Numbers Division and Big 20 Division, as well as enter the Big Fish Pot. The entry fee was $200 for one division or $300 for both divisions. The Big Fish pot was $25 per team.

After a long night on the water, teams were required to be back for weigh-ins by 7:00am.
When all the fish were finally counted and weighed, winners from both the north and south were named world champions.

What’s next for the bowfishing community?
Bowhunting.com is a sponsor of the Bowfishing Tour. Be sure to check out Bowfishing Tour’s Battle on the River bowfishing tournament at Paris Landing State Park in Tennessee, August 29-30. This will be a Big 20 format, as well as a new format, the Rough Slam. The Rough Slam is a fun new format for the team that simply likes to shoot stuff. The team with the biggest variety of legal rough fish at the end of the night wins this division. You can register online for this event at www.bowfishingtour.com.

The Archenemy line of bowfishing gear from Bass Pro Shops unleashed a pretty impressive lineup at the recent U.S. Open Bowfishing Championship and World's Bowfishing Fair. We took some time to stop and see some of the great gear that was featured at this year's event and we'll be reviewing some of the Archenemy products soon.

The new Archenemy boats featured at this year's U.S. Open stirred up as much buzz as anything at the show. The expanded variety in bowfishing boats is impressive, to say the least.

Muzzy Bowfishing Gets it done

6/19/2015

Muzzy Bowfishing continues to prove that they can get things done when it comes to some of the best in bowfishing gear, as well as battling it out in fierce competition on the water. I recently had the chance to catch up with some of the Muzzy crew at last week's U.S. Open Championship at Bass Pro in Springfield, MO to talk bowfishing, see the new products, and see the fish the team brought to the scales.

The Muzzy crew was one of the many bowfishing vendors on hand to showcase great new gear for 2015. I spoke with Chris James of Muzzy on the new Addict bowfishing kit that was designed as an all-in-one kit to get folks started in the sport of bowfishing. The kit includes a tool-less take-down recurve bow that is perfect for packing and shoots really smooth. The kit also includes Muzzy's new XD Pro reel with 150# line installed, arrow rest, Fish Bone Arrow with Carp Point, and Finger Guards. The bow rings up for $249 making it a killer option for anyone wanting to get started in bowfishing, or as a backup bow to keep in your boat or truck.

The new Muzzy Alcatraz fish point was another great item on display. The Alcatraz is a cool little point that penetrates great, yet has super hold on the biggest of fish. The barbs on this point release with a simple 1/4 turn to get you back in the action quick. The Alcatraz comes in a complete arrow with great looks and a solid design.

The folks at Muzzy don't just make great products, they also bring the heat in some of the toughest bowfishing tournaments across the country. The Muzzy team placed 6th out of 275 teams at this year's U.S. Open Bowfishing Championship, proving once again, bowfishing is what they know and do. Congrats to the Muzzy Bowfishing Team on a great finish at this year's U.S. Open and a big thanks for continuing to bring great gear to the bowfishing community.

The 2015 U.S. Open Bowfishing Championship is in the books and it once again set new records for attendance, weight of fish, and money payouts to the winning teams. In its third year, the Bass Pro U.S. Open Bowfishing Championship featured 275 teams from across the country battling for a $25,000 grandprize. It was the biggest payout in bowfishing history.

The event was held at the Bass Pro location in Springfield, MO June 12-14. In addition to this year’s tournament, Bass Pro also launched the first World’s Bowfishing Fair where they unveiled lots of gear from their brand new Archenemy Bowfishing line. Other vendors at this year’s event included Muzzy, AMS Bowfishing, NAP, Rinehart Targets, Fin Finder, Oneida Bows, PSE, Innerloc, Lumenok, Bowfishing Tour, Monster Bowfishing, and more. It’s an event for the whole family with tons of prizes, giveaways and raffles for kids of all ages.

There were a number of seminars offered throughout the event from the likes of Chuck Belmore, John Paul Morris, and Jon Justice of The Habit TV show, Kevin VanDam, Corey Brossman, Tim Wells, Mathew Schillinger, and others.

This dude was really curious about the slingshot as soon as we showed up at the water the other morning. I handed it to him and told him to shoot it. He stepped up to the water and stuck a spoonie first shot. The kid was a natural!

Bowfishing Association of America (BAA) president, Andy Cardwell, is making things happen these days, both on the water and in his efforts to take the BAA to the next level as the sport of bowfishing continues to boom. The BAA is growing once again with new membership being added and a new generation of bowfishermen jumping on board.

The only association of its kind, the BAA is committed to fighting for the rights of bowfishermen and to create new opportunities for bowfishing across the country.

Big things are happening for Andy on the water as well. Andy is the new BAA Kentucky State and BAA World Record holder with this monster 66 lb flathead!!! Way to go, Andy!

If you're not a member of the BAA already, be sure to check out their website and get signed up today. Check it out at:  http://www.bowfishingassociation.com/join-today-with-bba/
